In 2000, Avesta Group was commissioned by the Saint-Germain Abbey of Auxerre to implement its skills on project management.
This monastic complex, located outside the castrum, was founded by Queen Clotilde in the 5th century. Necropolis of the bishops of Auxerre, the abbey knew its hour of glory in the ninth century by sheltering the prestigious school of Auxerre which was one of the centres of the Carolingian Renaissance.
This monument sums up in itself sixteen centuries of the history of Auxerre. Although composite, it offers an architectural ensemble of great interest.
Located in the buildings of the old abbey of Saint Germain, the Art and History museum displays on three levels regional and local discoveries from the prehistorical period to the end of the Middle Age. Through various themes, such as the copyist monks’ activities, a numismatic collection or the religious activities around the shroud of Saint-Germain, the institution stands as a witness of finest hours of the region.
