Opened in June 2010, the Marina Bay Sands is a vast hotel resort in Singapore with 2,600 rooms, a casino and a museum, located in front of Marina Bay. In 2008, Avesta Group worked on this project by creating an innovative art and science museum.
The ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands is the Museum of Creativity, where creative processes are at the heart of art and science and their role in shaping society are explored. As a study of the creative processes that underlie the human experience, ArtScience seeks to understand what drives creative people, how they acquire their skills and how they work. ArtScience Museum presents exhibitions and programmes to deliver these stories using a combination of beautiful design, intriguing content and intellectual discussion, to inspire the creativity in us all.
Since it opened in 2010, ArtScience Museum has been home to some of the best-attended exhibitions in Singapore, including “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition”, “Harry Potter: The Exhibition”, “Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal”; “Dali: Mind of a Genius” and “Van Gogh Alive”.
An iconic presence along the Marina Bay waterfront, ArtScience Museum is a living, breathing embodiment of the ArtScience theme.
The Museum features 10 “fingers” anchored by a unique round base in the middle. The design of each finger reveals different gallery spaces featuring skylights at the “fingertips” that illuminate the dramatically curved interior walls.
The Museum's dish-like roof channels rainwater through the central atrium of the building creating a 35-meter water drop into a small, reflecting pool. The rain is then recycled for use in the building's restrooms.
