From 2003 to 2005, Avesta Group worked on the extension of a museum dedicated to the Bresse culture and heritage.
Five buildings, occupied since the end of the 15th century, and the park surrounded them form an architectural ensemble, heritage from the natural and historical French region of Bresse. This old agricultural domain, classified as a Monument Historique in 1938, also includes a dairy cooperative, representative of know-how and the associated previous lifestyle.
In 2005, the decision was taken to enlarge the museum and modernise it. Without distorting the site, a new building, half-buried, was conceived as a glass-structure surrounded by a vegetative roof. For this first and protective extension, the museum received in 2007 the first special mention during the European museum of the year award.
The museum displays, both in its historic and new buildings, a various collection of items and technical artefacts: Hats, headdress, sabots, jewels, furniture, music instruments.
Tactile models, as well as the reconstitution of building techniques, constitute interactive activities for the visitors to fulfil the mission of the museum to keep the human heritage alive.
