In 2018, Avesta Group was contacted to participate in the development of a cultural hub in Halifax, Canada.
Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS) and Nova Scotia College of Art & Design (NSCAD) are considering and planning a co-location to the Halifax Waterfront. This move would complement the long history of collaboration between the two institutes. The primary objective of the co-location is to create an innovative partnership that marries the strengths of each institution, increasing the likelihood for implementation and ongoing sustainability of needed new facilities for both AGNS and NSCAD.
Avesta Group was appointed to review and advise on the future building requirements for the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, as part of the Arts District on the Halifax Waterfront.
Based on the outcomes of consultations of the Gallery staff, it was determined that the gallery’s functions could be divided into zones that correspond to six main meta-functions: Gather, Discover, Enjoy, Share, Generate, and Operate. Finally, detailed design standards were generated that outline the requirements that apply to the design of Class A gallery facilities.
