In 2000, the city of Taulignan, whose history is strongly linked to the activity of the silk, decided to build a museum to present silk production in the region. Avesta Group worked on this project as a cultural planner.
The town of Talignan decided in 2001 to acquire the private collection of Mr Lançon, former miller and passionate collector, to make a museum and to testify of its important industrial past in silk production and activities.
The General Council of the Drôme, seduced by the project of safeguarding and enhancement of this industrial heritage, accompanies the municipality in the creation of a new museography. Four thematic spaces retracing the stages of transformation of silk: “from the cocoon to the fabric”.
The municipal museum is installed in the old communal school in the centre of the village pursues. Its missions: safeguard and highlight traditional objects and ancient mechanics that trace the history of silk from the 18th to the 20th century; transmit and make discover to the general public the industrial past of silk in the Drôme; present the human aspect through the working conditions and life of the workers in the 19th century in the workshops.
