In 2008, Avesta Group implemented its skills as a cultural planner to conceive an archaeological museum in the Casablanca Park.

Casablanca Park and the Waterfront Area: the Origin of the Project

A national urban development strategy is being implemented in Morocco to develop touristic and leisure activities. In this context, a large waterfront area located south of Casablanca is being rehabilitated into a mixed-use quarter including hotels, condominiums, retail and a leisure park: Casablanca Park.
This area of 90 hectares is a green open space were residents traditionally come to escape from the busy city. Moreover, historical, archaeological digs took place on site that uncovered Homo Erectus bones testifying of the presence of the first man in Morocco 1 million years ago. For these reasons, the development project includes a strong cultural aspect that had to appeal both to residents and tourists.

An Archaeological Purpose

An archaeological museum will be based on the relationship between the Man of Casablanca and his environment. The museum’s experience is to be pursued in an outdoor “archaeological canyon”.
Finally, the park that leads to the sea will host pavilions that will form a cultural pathway called Take a walk throughout Morocco!. Each of the small interpretation centres will offer the opportunity to conjure up Morocco's history and cultural diversity through the reproduction of emblematic architectural elements of Morocco's most famous cities.
