In 1998, Avesta Group was commissioned to assist with the new architecture design of the Palais des Beaux-Arts, in Lille, France.

One of France's Greatest Museums Since 1801

Located on the Place de la République in Lille, the Palais des Beaux-Arts (Museum of Fine Arts) is the most significant French museum outside of Paris, with an area of 22,000 sqm. The creation of the museum in 1801 was part of the called "popularisation of art" established by Napoleon I to receive the works seized from territories occupied by the revolutionary French armies. Palais des Beaux-Arts' collections provide a panorama of the European artistic movements that happened from the 12th to the 20th century. With the second largest art collection in France, the museum possesses the work of brilliant artists such as Raphael, Donatello, Rembrandt, Goya, El Greco, Toulouse Lautrec, Rodin and Delacroix.

The 1990s Renovation et Expansion

The museum's Belle-Époque style building, designed by Edouard Bérard and Fernand Etienne-Charles Delmas, was completed in 1892 and preserved almost entirely until the poor state of the facility led to the latest renovation in the 1990s.
The new architecture structure, conducted by Jean-Marc Ibos and Myrto Vitart, allowed the construction of a 700 sqm basement dedicated for temporary exhibitions and 19th-century sculptures.
The Lille Museum of Fine Arts is a “must see” place when visiting the city.
